MINNETONKA, Minn. – The Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball team won one game out of 5 over the weekend at the Gopher Classic in Minnetonka, Minnesota. That one win came yesterday when they edged Duluth Lakeview out of Minnesota 5-4. They then wrapped up the tournament on the short end of a 5-4 score to Elk River, Minnesota. In the win over Duluth, Pierre scored 4 times in the 4th inning and then held off Duluth. Pierre had 5 hits in the game with Josh Mayer getting 3 of those. Duluth had 7 hits but Aaron Booth picked up the win on the mound going 4.1 innings. Matt Lusk got the save striking out 3. In the setback to Elk River, Pierre out hit their Minnesota opponent 8-7 with Jack Van Camp getting 3 of those hits and Matt Lusk drove in a pair of runs. Mayer and Coby Carr combined for 5 innings of work and Lusk worked the final two striking out 1. With the 1 and 4 weekend, Pierre ended the regular season with a 20-18 record and will host the Region 3A tournament that begins Thursday at Hyde Stadium.
