MITCHELL, S.D. – Post tournament awards were handed out after Tuesday’s championship game of the South Dakota American Legion A State Baseball tournament in Mitchell. Mason Runia of State Champion Renner was named the Player of the Year award winner. The tournament’s Big Stick Award went to Calvin Hegg of Mitchell. Mitchell had a batting average of .500 for the tournament. And the Porter Talcott Sportsmanship Award was taken by Rapid City Post 22. Renner defeated Post 22 6-4 in the title game on Tuesday to win Renner Post 307 it’s very first State American Legion Baseball Championship.

Renner also prevailed in the State A Junior tournament in Rapid City that wrapped up on Tuesday. Renner defeated Rapid City Post 320 Shooting Stars 11-9 in the championship game. Ethan Erickson of Renner was named the Player of the Year while Liam Porter of the Rapid City Post 22 Expo’s was the Big Stick winner after getting 10 hits in 19 at bats during the tournament for a .526 batting average. The Porter Talcott Sportsmanship Award was won by Watertown Post 17.
