The 10 year anniversary celebration for the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre was held over the weekend (Aug. 10).
Clint Johnson and family were there to see his bronze statue unveiled as the 3rd one in the Rodeo Center’s sculpture garden.
Johnson– a Spearfish native– dominated the saddle bronc riding competition on the pro rodeo circuit in the 1980s, winning championships in 1980, ‘87, ‘88 and ‘89. His statue joins those of Casey Tibbs (Fort Pierre) and Billy Etbauer (Ree Heights), the top three World Champion Bronc riders of South Dakota.
Sculptor Tony Chytka has created all three of the bronze sculptures.
Chytka says there are a limited amount of miniature statues available.
