PIERRE,S.D. – Hayden Shaffer and Jessica Lutmer of the Pierre Governor Cross Country teams have been selected by the Pierre Athletic Coaches Association (PACA) as the Avera Riggs High School Athletes of the Week. Shaffer has led the Boys XC Team the past four weeks. This past week at the Rapid City Invitational Hayden placed 18th out of 103 runners in the varsity division. This was his best performance of the season and his career. Hayden ran his 5000 meter distance in 17:36 which improved his best time that he ran just a few weeks ago. Meanwhile Lutmer has led the Pierre Girls XC team in the past four meets and has improved her quality of running in each of those four races. At the Rapid City Invitational Jessica placed 19th in a field of 90 runners. Jessica received a t-shirt for placing in the top 20. Shaffer and Lutmer were nominated for the award by their head coach Jim Keyes.
