The firefighters maintained their lead over law enforcement 149 to 134 after the second day of the Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns and Hoses blood drive.
Donors set a Guns and Hoses record yesterday (Dec. 3) with 175 people registering to give blood. Because some people are able to donate double red cells, 185 units of blood were collected. The two day total is 293 units toward this year’s goal of 400 units of blood.
Today (Dec. 4), people can donate blood at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre from 8am to 2:30pm. To make your donation process go even more quickly, you can fill out your health questionnaire in advance at www.vitalant.org or by using the Vitalant app. Walk-in donors are also welcome.
Blood donation requirements:
- Donors must be at least 16 years old. 16 yr. old donors will need a signed parental consent form that you can get at the blood drive or at www.vitalant.org, donor forms, bottom of the page under RESOURCES
- Valid picture ID
- Donors must be in good health and cannot have a cold or be on antibiotics
- Tattoos are ok if they were done in a licensed facility

Over 2400 (2459) units have been collected during this drive since it began in 2005. This blood drive has also brought in 385 first time donors. With one donation, you can impact up to three lives.
