PIERRE, S.D. – The Harrisburg Tigers grabbed their first lead with around 5 minutes left to go in the second quarter and did not relinquish it as they went on to a 68-61 win over the Pierre Governors in the season opener Friday night at Riggs High Gym. The Tigers led by 3 at halftime and increased to 14 early in the 4th quarter before Pierre rallied and cut the lead to 6 but could get no closer. Conner led Harrisburg with 18 points, 13 coming in the second half. Paul Adam had 23 points and two thunderous jams to lead the Governors. Both teams made 22 field goals but Harrisburg outscored the Governors by seven at the free throw line which was the final margin of victory for the Tigers. The Governors will travel to Douglas on Friday night and they visit Spearfish next Saturday afternoon for their next games. In the preliminary games, Harrisburg won the JV game 55-33 and the Harrisburg sophomores edged the Pierre sophomores 60-57. Pierre won the freshman A game 53-49.
