PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota High School Activities Associaton Board of Directors say that they will consider adding Girls Wrestling to the list of sanctioned sports in the state’s high schools. The Board met Wednesday in Pierre and heard that the Wrestling Advisory committee was going to make that recomendation. The proposal calls for including four weight classes for girls at the state wrestling championships in 2020-21. The proposal would have Girls Wrestling all under one classification and was based on the fact that there are more than 100 athletes registered for the girls’ division of the State Youth Wrestling Championship tournament later in March. And this year there were 35 girls who wrestled across the state in the high school ranks. Also on Wednesday, the association decided to gauge interest in E-sports, planning to make presentations to athletic administrators and school superintendents about the future adoption of the sport and budgetary guidelines.
