PIERRE, S.D. – The Oahe Capitals Girls Varsity Hockey team ended it’s season on Sunday on the short end of a 4-1 score to the Sioux Center Storm as the 2020 Girls State Varsity Hockey Tournament wrapped up at the EXPO Center in Ft. Pierre. Jessa McTighe scored a goal at 1:22 of the second period to cut a Sioux Center lead to 2-1 but it was as close as the Capitals could get in the game. Sioux Center answered with a pair of goals later in the period to secure the consolation championship. The Capitals were outshot int he game 36-22 with Capitals goaltender Abigail Fromm-Stewart making 32 saves in net. The Capitals opened the tournament on Friday getting shutout by the Sioux Falls Flyers 11-0 but bounced back on Saturday to record a 3-2 win over the Watertown Lakers. The Capitals scored the first 3 goals of that game with McTighe netting what proved to be the game winner at 14:19 of the second period. McTighe had a total of 3 of the Capitals 4 total goals scored in the tournament. The Aberdeen Cougars won the State Tournament title with a 4-3 win over Sioux Falls.
