NEW YORK (AP) – the NCAA has canceled its Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments because of the spread of coronavirus, putting an abrupt end to the season less than a month before champions were to be crowned. The decision comes a day after the NCAA announced that the games that were to start next week would go on but played in empty arenas. That plan was scrapped as every major American sports sports league from the NBA to NHL to MLB put the breaks on it’s seasons due to concerns about the pandemic. This includes the USD women’s basketball team who won the Summit League Tournament earlier this week and now finds out that it’s season is over and will not be playing in an NCAA Tournament. This also includes the NCAA Division II Basketball post season playoffs of which Northern State’s men and USD Women were to play beginning this weekend and the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships that were to be held in Sioux Falls tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday). In addition, the NCAA cancelled all of it’s spring championships including Baseball, Softball, Hockey and Lacrosse.
