The Pierre City Commission is providing a little relief for utility customers.
For the months of April and May, the City will waive past due fees for people who can’t pay their utility bill on time. The change applies to bills issued in April and bills issued in May, allowing customers more than four full weeks to make payment. Customers are reminded bills reflect the previous month’s utility use.
Mayor Steve Harding says he knows there are community members negatively impacted by COVID-19 and this is one step the Commission can take without jeopardizing essential services.
The City of Pierre doesn’t generate electricity; it buys it and distributes it. Ongoing utility revenues are used to purchase electricity that is then distributed to homes and businesses.
