PIERRE, S.D. – Summer time is for baseball, softball, apple pie and high school basketball team camps. This year, due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) Pandemic, team camps may have to be taken off the schedule. Team Camps are used by colleges and University’s across the country to give high school teams a chance to compete against other schools out of season and have players honing their team skills. The Pierre Governor boys basketball team normally goes to several team camps in the summer, usually in the month of June. But Governor head boys basketball coach Terry Becker says those camps that are usually in June have seen colleges across the state and region being shut down and team camps are only a thought
But as quickly as the news changes from day to day and sometimes hour to hour with the COVID 19 Pandemic, coach Becker says if colleges and univrsities were to schedule team camps later in the summer, like July, he says he can get enough players together quickly to attend them.
As of right now SDSU, USD, Northern State, Augustana, Sioux Falls, Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines team camps are currently on hold because they all are scheduled to be held in June.
