PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors will hold a two day meeting in Pierre tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday. On the agenda the board will be officially asked to cancel the remainder of State Events this Spring and the 6 State Basketball tournaments due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) Pandemic. The board will also be considering broadcast bids for State Events beginning next school year and conduct a first reading related to State Event sites for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 State Basketball tournaments. The board also will be deciding whether to decrease the number of football classes in the state from the current 7 to 5. Three classes of 11 man football and two of nine man. The Athletic Directors Association recomended last month to leave the number at 7 while the football advisory committee made up mostly of high school football coaches are recomending the decrease to 5. The meeting will follow the annual meeting that is scheduled to get underway at 11 am. Both of the meetings will be held via teleconference due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) situation in the state. The regular April meeting is scheduled to start approximatly 1/2 hour after the annual meeting ends and will continue Wednesday if all items of business are not finished tomorrow.
