MITCHELL – Post 8 Baseball opened its season with a doubleheader split Sunday in Mitchell, dropping the season opener to Mitchell Post 18 14-4 before coming back to win the second game 8-3.
In Game 1, Koby Larson and Peyton Nash both drove in two runs for Mitchell and Jonah Schmidt was 4-for-4. For Post 8, Jack Van Camp and Aaron Booth both allowed 7 runs. Andrew Coverdale and Matt Lusk each had two hits and an RBI. Coverdale doubled. Garrett Stout and Maguire Raske hit RBI doubles.
Post 8 rebounded in the second game. Andy Gordon hit Post 8’s first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the 6th inning, and drove in three runs. Grey Zabel hit two RBI doubles. Cade Hinkle knocked an RBI triple. Van Camp and Andy Gordon each had two hits. Raske struck out 9 in four innings while allowing just two runs and two hits.
Next for Post 8 will be a doubleheader Friday at Rapid City Post 320 before a home-opening triangular with Renner and Rapid City Post 320 Sunday afternoon at Hyde Stadium at 1:00.

RAPID CITY – Post 8’s Junior team opened its season by splitting a twinbill with the Post 22 Bullets Sunday at Rapid City’s Fitzgerald Stadium. Post 8 Juniors won game 1 15-5 before the Post 22 Bullets won the nightcap 9-6.
Jayden Wiebe led a 13-hit attack for Post 8 in Game 1 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Matthew Hanson drove in 3 runs. Isaac Polak also had 3 hits. Jack Merkwan hit a 2-run triple. Brady Getz struck out 7 in 2 and two-thirds innings.
Then in the second game, Isaac Polak hit a two-run triple and Getz had an RBI double. Jackson Edman struck out 7 in three innings. Post 8 once trailed 7-1 before rallying to within 9-6 in the 7th inning.
The Post 8 16 & under team will return to Rapid City Thursday to meet the Post 320 Shooters, the Cheyenne Coyotes Friday, and Belle Fourche Post 32 & the Post 320 Risers on Saturday.
