SIOUX FALLS – Chamberlain head coach John Donovan has been named as Wrestling Coach of the Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association. At the 2020 State A wrestling tournament, the Cubs finished sixth with 82 points, led by Nash Hutmacher, who won his fourth consecutive state championship and was ranked the nation’s number one high school heavyweight wrestler. Donovan, a Chamberlain alum, has been the Cubs’ head wrestling coach since 2004. When he took the helm, Chamberlain had just a few wrestlers competing, but Donovan has now built the program into a yearly contender.
Other coaches honored by the SDHSCA were Galen Schoenefeld of Viborg-Hurley in boys’ basketball, Lorisa Broughton of Corsica-Stickney in girls’ basketball, Rachelle Engelbrecht of Brookings in gymnastics and John Vogel of Aberdeen Central in tennis.
