PIERRE – The third season of the Expedition League is set to begin on Friday, with the Pierre Trappers opening the season on the road. Pierre will start the 52-game schedule with a seven-game road trip, opening against the Western Nebraska Pioneers in Gering on Friday at 7:35 CT. Two more games will follow at Western Nebraska, then two at Fremont, and then back to Western Nebraska for two more before the Hyde Stadium opener. That will be on Friday, July 3 when the Trappers host the Hastings Sodbusters at 7:05 in the first of a three-game holiday weekend series. Remaining July home series will be against the Badlands Big Sticks July 9-12, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs on July 15-16, the Fremont Moo on July 19-20, and Western Nebraska on July 22-23. Monday through Saturday home games start at 7:05 PM, with Sunday home games beginning at 2:05 PM.
Expedition League President and Trappers’ owner Steve Wagner said that the task to start the season during the pandemic has been arduous.
Spearfish, the expansion team in Sioux Falls, Casper, and Wheat City had to be left out of the league this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, and Wagner said this was difficult to do.
Wagner said there has been a lot of work lately to make sure everything is ready.
According to Wagner, the Trappers’ staff is ready.
Wagner said that coaches and players through the league are happy with how the schedule is set.
Wagner gave an example of how ready players are to start.
Wagner said that the Trappers are striving to make the fan experience at Hyde Stadium as close to normal as possible.
Wagner outlined safety procedures that will be followed.
