The Pierre School District has released its Back to School Plan in a letter to parents, guardians and staff.
Supt. Dr. Kelly Glodt says the district will be providing two learning options for Pierre students when classes begin Aug. 20: either in-school or online. He says while they’ve worked hard to ensure the at home/online option for all K-12 students is as effective as possible, there is no substitute for in person instruction.
Glodt says the online option will use Edgenuity’s K-12 Learning Solutions and be coordinated and monitored by a Pierre School District employee so the district can maintain personal relationships critical in the development of students. Descriptions are outlined on the Pierre School District website’s Online Learning Page.
Student Registration for both learning options will be conducted Aug. 1-7 using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. All parents will be asked to commit to either in-person or online instruction during the registration. Building secretaries will be back in their offices Aug. 3 and will be available to assist anyone who is having trouble completing registration. The Pierre School District will also have a kiosk at each school location for those who have questions or don’t have internet service at home.
The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly advocates the school year start with students physically present at school to best meet the developmental, educational, social and emotional needs of students. The Pierre School District will continue evaluate and implement additional mitigation efforts to make the schools as safe as possible for students and staff returning to the buildings.
