The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $345,995 in South Dakota rule businesses. This money will be used to create jobs and increase economic opportunities in rural South Dakota.
Julie Gross, South Dakota USDA Rural Development State Director says this grant is going to help small and emerging businesses and strengthen the economic growth within the industry. Gross says the USDA is awarding these grants through the Rural Business Development Grant Program.
The grant was announced on August 11th, 2020 and will be help many organization in our sate. Some of those businesses receiving the grants are as fallows.
The City of Gregory will be getting $49,000 to provide a revolving loan fund. This money will help create 12 jobs and help economic growth in it’s community and surrounding areas.
Value Added Ag Development Center, Inc based out of Pierre will be receiving around $55,496. The company will be using the money to provide technical assistance and education to five target businesses in five counties. They will be adding 18 jobs and save eight while making a difference. They plan to use the funds to help small emerging businesses with business planning and feasibility analysis.
Lower Brule Sioux Tribe is receiving $42,500 grant to finance a feasibility study for a potential grocery store. This grocery store would support the Lower Brule community and surrounding areas by proving folks access to food.
Four Band Community Fund, Inc. will use a $99,999 grant to help out ten small and emerging businesses on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. They are going to be teaching them technical taring. These folks will have access to hands-on and classroom assistance. They will also learn about economic development. This grant will be creating around 19 jobs.
These projects will help the agriculture industry in South Dakota over the next few years.
