Most Riggs High School athletic events scheduled to take place through Monday have been postponed or canceled and all marching band practices and performances through Monday have been canceled.
Today (Sept. 17, 2020) the district announced next week’s Homecoming festivities have been postponed until the week of Oct. 12. T.F. Riggs High School will not have classes tomorrow, but Georgia Morse Middle School and the elementary schools will be in session.
The Pierre School Board will hold a special meeting tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 18) at 12:30 in the Administration Building board room. The agenda doesn’t specifically mention COVID-19, but items to be discussed are an update on T.F. Riggs and action to make revisions to the school district schedule.
Athletic postponements include:
- Thursday’s soccer matches at Sioux Falls Roosevelt
- Friday’s football game at Tea Area
- Friday’s home volleyball match against Yankton
- Saturday’s home volleyball match against Douglas (rescheduled for October 31)
Cancellations include:
- Friday’s golf meet in Mitchell
- Saturday’s competitive cheer/dance competition in Brookings
- Tuesday’s competitive cheer/dance competition in Huron
The Pierre School District updates its website each Monday with the number of coronavirus cases in staff and students. It currently reports five students and zero teachers have the virus. Student athletes have been identified as close contacts to some of those five cases.
