Update:
In an Oct. 23, 2020, press release, the US Army Corps of Engineers announced it has extended the comment deadline to Nov. 26, 2020.
Original story:
The US Army Corps of Engineers will host virtual public meetings this month to gather input on whether or not to allow Dakota Access, LLC to build a pipeline across Corps-administered federal land at the Oahe Dam and Reservoir Project on the Missouri River near Pierre/Fort Pierre.
The Corps will use the information to develop a draft Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate granting an easement to Dakota Access, LLC.
Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the Oct. 15-16 (6-9pm CT) public meetings will be conducted virtually via a live Facebook event. Participants do not need a Facebook account to watch the meeting online; however, Facebook is required to use the chat function. Each public meeting will be recorded and a link will be made available.
To ask questions during the public meetings, please use the Facebook chat function (if you have a Facebook account) or email questions to NWO-DAPL-EIS@usace.army.mil. Facilitators will be monitoring the chat function and email and will work to address as many comments and questions as possible.
As the lead federal agency, the Corps will coordinate with the public, other state and local agencies and Tribes in order to evaluate the range of actions, alternatives and impacts of the proposed project. Comments are invited to assist in identifying the scope of potentially affected environmental, social, and economic issues relevant to the potential grant of an easement and determining if there are reasonable alternatives to be considered in the EIS.
Comments can be mailed to:
