VERMILLION – Winner held off a final drive by Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan for an 18-14 win in the 11B championship game Friday at the DakotaDome.
BEE (11-1), who topped Winner in last year’s championship, drove from their 22 to the Winner 14 before Riley Orel knocked down a pass in the end zone on the last play of the game.
Orel, Preston Norrid and Brady Fritz rushed for touchdowns for Winner (11-0). Orel rushed for 101 yards. Bodie Burnham rushed for a touchdown and 61 yards and Kaden Klumb also rushed for a score for the Seahawks.
Winner won its eighth state title, third most among any school, and fourth in the last nine seasons.
