The Final two state championship games in high school football have been played. In class 11A, Tea Area took advantage of a hot start to roll past Canton 35-16 in the 11A state championship game on Saturday afternoon. This is the second state football title for Tea Area in the past three years. Canton received to start the game. On the first play from scrimmage for the C-Hawks, Titans linebacker Garrett Kolbeck jumped in front of a Seth Peterson pass for an interception. Three plays later, Austin Lake hit Conner Mulder for an 11-yard touchdown. Just 90-seconds into the game, Tea Area led 7-0. Tea Area would get the ball back after forcing a three-and-out. On the Titans first play of their second drive, Kaden Johnson broke free for a 90-yard touchdown run to make it a 14-0 game. The Titans would score again late in the opening quarter as Austin Lake took a read-option quarterback keeper 30-yards to the house. Tea Area would end up winning 35 to 8 over Canton. Brandon Valley defeated Harrisburg 35-14 on Saturday night to win the 11AAA championship, their second title in three years. The game was deadlocked through the first two quarters, but Brandon Valley pulled away with their running game in the second half.
Thursday in high school volleyball the brackets are set and in class B and number one seed Northwestern will take on number 8 seed Corsica Stickney at noon Central Time at the Huron Arena. Number 4 seed Colman Edan will take on number 5 seed Bridgewater Emery at 2:00 PM. Number 3 seed Chester Area will take on number 6 seed Faulkton Area at 5:00 PM and number 2 seed Warner will take on number 7 seed Hitchcock Turlare at 7 PM. Again, all game taking place in class B at the Huron Arena. KMLO 100 point 7 FM will fallow the Faulkton Area Lady Trojans through the state tournament on 100 point seven FM and drgnews dot com. Tune in Thursday at around 4:30 for the play by play and continue to listen through the weekend. In class A the bracket says that number one seed Sioux Falls Christian and number eight seed Madison will clash at noon Thursday from the Watertown Civic Arena. Four seeded Winner will take on five seeded Hamlin at 2:00 PM. Number three seed Rapid City Christian will take on number six seed Dakota Valley at 5:00 PM followed by number two seed Hill City and number seven seed Parker, who will clash around 7:00PM.
