MITCHELL – Former South Dakota High School Activities Association officials coordinator William “Buck” Timmins died Monday due to COVID-19. Timmins was an alum of Mitchell High School and Dakota Wesleyan and officiated many high school and college events. He was named as the South Dakota High School Coaches Association official of the year and received the NFOA Football Active Officials Award for South Dakota and the NFOA Section 5 Distinguished Active Official Award.
Timmins was honored in 2010 with the Steve Withorne Memorial Award. This recognizes an official’s outstanding contributions and dedication to helping promote officials’ development. He wrote a regular newsletter to officials and wrote football mechanics material for officials’ meetings.
Timmins also taught and coached at Avon and Parkston.
