At Tuesday’s meeting of the Walworth County Commission, Commissioner Kevin Holgard questioned the purchasing of meals for transport personnel in the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Josh Boll said he has always provided for the meals for transport because of amount the of hours they are on the road. Holgard tried to make a motion to not pay for meals on transports – but it was decided to check the personnel policy on travel expenses and discuss at the next meeting.
Two representatives from Clark Engineering were present and gave a bridge inspection report, and offered to assist Highway Superintendent Gary Byre with grant applications.
There was discussion of what to do about a holding area for inmates waiting for court. Sheriff Boll has looked into renovating the jail garage or building a new structure. Restroom facilities are a major consideration with sewer and water lines, as well as a place for meals. Another possibility is a portable construction trailer. The sheriff would like a decision on what to do very soon before winter sets in.
A motion to pay $16,000 for an inspection and costs of the potential regional jail facility was not discussed because, according to Commissioners Holgard and Marion Schlomer, interest to participate in the concept from the other counties has dwindled down to three.
The commission will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, November 24th, at 9:00am.
