SIOUX FALLS – Augustana will have 21 varsity sports in the 2021-22 school year with the addition of men’s swimming & diving and women’s acrobatics & tumbling.
Lindsie Micko, who leads the Vikings’ women’s swimming & diving team, will also be the head coach of the men’s team. It will be the only Division II men’s swimming & diving program in South Dakota.
The evolution of different disciplines of gymnastics resulted in acrobatics & tumbling, which was added this summer to the NCAA emerging sports list. Athletic aspects of competitive cheerleading are included. Augustana is the 36th institution to offer the sport, the 25th in Division II and the first in the region.
There will now be 10 men’s varsity sports and 11 women’s varsity sports at Augustana.
