MANHATTAN, KS – South Dakota men’s basketball struggled again Friday, losing their second straight game to start the season at the Little Apple Classic, 69-53 to Drake.
Joseph Yesufu led three double-figure scorers for Drake (2-0) with 14 points.
A.J. Plitzuweit had 14 to lead the Coyotes (0-2). Stanley Umude added 10.
USD led 20-19 with just over three minutes left in the first half, but then Drake scored the last 11 points of the half to take a 30-20 halftime lead and controlled the game thereafter, leading by as many as 23 in the second half. Coyote shooting struggled again. After shooting only 33 percent in a Wednesday loss to Colorado, USD shot only 37 percent against Drake and made just two-of-14 three-pointers. In their first two games, the Coyotes have made only five of 34 threes.
South Dakota is scheduled to play Nebraska on Tuesday in Lincoln.
