VERMILLION – South Dakota women’s and men’s basketball both completed sweeps of Denver Sunday at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in the opening weekend of Summit League play.
The Coyote women stopped Denver 89-74 after leading by as much as 35. Hannah Sjerven scored 25 and nine rebounds, reaching 1,000 points for her career. Onida’s Chloe Lamb, the former Sully Buttes standout, scored 24 points with four three-pointers, six rebounds and five assists. USD (6-3, 2-0 Summit) will next play Friday and Saturday at Kansas City.

Stanley Umude scored 27 with 11 rebounds Sunday as the South Dakota men rolled past Denver 79-57. Umude was 10-of-14 shooting with five three-pointers for the Coyotes (4-6, 2-0 Summit). A.J. Plitzuweit scored 19 points. The Coyotes will play at UMKC on Friday and Saturday nights.
