If you are wanting to help financially, OAHE Federal Credit Union has established a fund. Financial donations can also be taken to Pierre Area Referral Service with a notation that the donation should go to their Salvation Army accounts which are used to respond to emergency situations.
If you are wanting to donate items, PLEASE GATHER THE ITEMS, BUT KEEP THEM AT YOUR LOCATION, FOR NOW. RESPONSE ORGANIZERS NEED TIME TO FIND OUT WHAT ITEMS ARE NEEDED AND THIS PROCESS MAY TAKE A FEW DAYS.
No people were injured and no surrounding structures were damaged in a fire at one of the Edgewater apartment buildings in Pierre that started around 5:30pm yesterday (Jan. 14).
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says crews are still on scene this morning.
Paul says the building is a total loss.
He says wind gusts over 40mph sent embers flying around the area of the apartment building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
