VERMILLION – South Dakota men’s basketball has started 8-0 in conference play for the first time in 21 years and for the first time as a Division I program. On Saturday, the Coyotes used a career-high 37 points from A.J. Plitzuweit to hold off Omaha 97-93 at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Plitzuweit hit five three-pointers and had eight assists for USD (10-6, 8-0). Stanley Umude added 24 points and eight rebounds and five assists.
The Coyotes shot 61 percent from the floor and 12-of-24 on three-pointers.
The last 8-0 conference start for South Dakota was in 2000 in the NCC (D II).
South Dakota will play South Dakota State Friday and Saturday in Brookings.
