Law Enforcement officers statewide are joining together to call for the resignation of State Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.
In a joint statement issued Friday afternoon, members of the South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police, the state’s Chiefs’ of Police Association and the state’s Sheriff’s Association called for Ravensborg to step down as the state’s top law enforcement officer.
The three groups represent all 66 county sheriffs, the majority of local police chiefs and a significant number of rank and file law enforcement officers statewide.
The statement reads, “Ravnsborg’s involvement in the death of Joe Boever on September 12th have resulted in a lack of confident in his ability to effectively carry out his duties as the chief law enforcement officer in South Dakota.”
South Dakota law enforcement groups are the latest to join the growing number of officials calling for Ravnsborg to resign following a September 2020 fatal car-pedestrian crash in Hyde County.
Earlier this week, Gov. Kristi Noem and at least one legislator said Ravnsborg should resign.
