An elementary school teacher has been selected as the Pierre School District’s Teacher of the Year for 2021.
Jen Nedrebo is a Title I teacher at Buchanan Elementary.
Principal Ryan Noyes says Nedrebo is a lifelong learner and continues to bring new ideas to the students and staff at Buchanan. He says her desire to make others around her more effective is inspiring.
The other nominees this year were Rodd Bauck, Kathy Askew, Leanne Schlekeway and Nichole Bowman.
Along with their work in the classroom, the Pierre School District’s criteria for Teacher of the Year takes into account positive roles the teacher assumes in the community and respect expressed by students, parents and colleagues.
Each school district’s Teacher of the Year is considered for a regional honor. Regional winners become nominees for the South Dakota Teacher of the Year.
The National Teacher of the Year Program is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers in partnership with the Voya Foundation.
