FORT MYERS, FL – Kenta Maeda will be the Twins’ Opening Day starter when the regular season begins April 1 in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
In this spring training, Maeda has allowed only one hit in nine shutout innings. Sunday in a 5-5 tie with Boston, Maeda struck out five, walked one and did not allow a hit in four scoreless innings.
This will be Maeda’s first MLB opening day start. He started five season openers in his career in Japan.
Also in Sunday’s game, Byron Buxton hit his first home run of the spring. Rookie Brent Rooker was three-for-three and improved to six-for-15 this spring.
On Monday, the Twins will play the Atlanta Braves at North Port, Florida, with J.A. Happ scheduled to start.
