BROOKINGS – For the first time, South Dakota State women’s basketball has made the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. The Jackrabbits, ninth seed in the Riverwalk Region, will play eighth seed Syracuse on Sunday at 4:30 PM at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
In the Jacks’ previous nine NCAA appearances, they had won the Summit League postseason tournament and the league’s automatic bid.
SDSU (21-3) won the Summit League regular season title, but then lost in the first round of the postseason tournament to eighth seed Omaha.
Syracuse (14-8) finished tied for fourth in the regular season in the ACC, then advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinal before losing to Louisville.
These schools will meet for the second straight NCAA Tournament. In 2019, the Jacks defeated the Orange at Frost Arena, 75-64, to advance to the Sweet 16.
If SDSU wins, it would play in the second round against the Connecticut-High Point winner on Tuesday, March 23.
