Inmate dies at South Dakota Women’s Prison in Pierre

State prison inmate Abby Hall has died as the result of an apparent suicide.

Hall, age 32, was found unresponsive in a bathroom at the South Dakota Women’s Prison in Pierre yesterday (March 16, 2021). She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Hall was serving multiple sentences for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance from Codington County and Brookings County and a sentence for possession of a controlled substance from Minnehaha County.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death.
