MINNEAPOLIS – A source told the Associated Press that the Minnesota Vikings agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $10 million with eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson on Wednesday night.
Peterson, a three-time All-Pro pick, played 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted fifth overall out of LSU in 2011. He has never missed a game due to injury. His only career absences came in 2019, due to a six-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Though he’s past his prime at age 30, Peterson will bring some badly needed experience to a cornerback group that went through significant growing and injury pains last year. The top two players at the position are Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney, both rookies in 2020.
Earlier Wednesday, the Vikings signed tight end Chad Beebe to a one-year deal for the NFL minimum of $920,000, pending a physical. Beebe, who had been a restricted free agent, was not tendered the lowest amount of $2.133 million, so he became an unrestricted free agent when the new league year began. He played in 14 of the Vikings’ 16 games in 2020 after having injury problems in his first two NFL seasons.
Also, the Vikings officially announced the signings of free agent defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, the former New York Giant, and linebacker Nick Vigil, formerly with Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Chargers, both pending physicals. Tomlinson received a two-year $21 million contract. Vigil signed a one-year deal worth potentially a little more than $2 million with incentives.
Tackle Rashod Hill re-signed, pending a physical. Hill signed a one-year deal with $2.377 million.
