ABERDEEN – De Smet completed a dominant tournament Saturday with a 59-43 win over Aberdeen Christian in the championship game of the of the SDHSAA Boys Basketball Class B State Tournament at the Barnett Center’s Wachs Arena at Northern State University.
Kalen Garry had his third 20-point game in as many days for De Smet (25-1) with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Tory Holland had 10 for the Bulldogs, who won the school’s sixth championship and first since 1999.
Aberdeen Christian (20-6), playing in the state tournament for the first time after qualifying in 2020, had 18 points from Ethan Russell.
3rd Place: Dell Rapids St. Mary 76, Viborg-Hurley 58
Connor Libis led the Cardinals (21-5) with 29 points, ending his career as the third all-time leading scorer in South Dakota boys high school basketball history. Eli Boomgarden scored 21 for the Cougars (18-7).
5th Place: White River 74, Lower Brule 72
Joe Sayler broke a tie with two free throws with 4.2 seconds remaining for White River (19-6). Sayler scored 26 points. Gavin Thigh scored 17 for Lower Brule (17-8), who had four double-figure scorers.
7th Place: Canistota 59, Lyman 44
Tyce Ortman scored 19 with nine rebounds to lead the Hawks (22-4). Sam McClanahan and Toby Estes recorded 13 points each for Lyman (19-7).
