Students in Dakota Wesleyan University’s new Learn & Earn program starting in Pierre in August will get some support from the Pierre Economic Development Corporation.
PEDCO’s board approved offering $500 scholarships to the first 10 students who enroll in the program.
Board chairman Andy Hubbart the group is always looking for ways to assist companies who need qualified employees. He says students who complete the Learn & Earn program will be ready for their first professional level job.
The Learn & Earn program is a 16-month program leading to a professional career and associate degree, with the option of pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to fill professional roles in Pierre/Fort Pierre and the surrounding area while earning job certifications.
Hubbart says the program integrates learning with professional work experience. Students enrolled in the program are eligible to participate in a year-long, part-time, paid internship while completing their professional certificates. He says each student will be paired with a personalized and professional career coach to assist them.
Informational sessions are being held at Capital City Campus in Pierre March 29 and April 12 from 5-7pm. Each session is a come and go as you have time format. Register for a Learn & Earn information session at www.dwu.edu/pierre_events.
