A few week’s after announcing his candidacy for Attorney General in 2022, Marty Jackley has received the endorsement of 59 county State’s Attorneys in South Dakota– so far.
Among the Jackley supporters in central South Dakota are: Jessica LaMie of Hughes County, Tom Maher of Stanley County, James Hare in Walworth County, Vaughn Beck of Edmunds County, Theresa Maule Rossow in Brule County and Steve Smith in Lyman County.
Jackley served at Attorney General from September 2009 until January of 2019. He says county State’s Attorneys are on the front lines prosecuting crimes to keep South Dakota families safe.
Jackley has also worked as the Chairman of the Nation’s Attorneys General, United States Attorney for South Dakota, Jones County State’s Attorney and as a Special Prosecutor for the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation.
In 2018, Jackley successfully defended South Dakota before the Supreme Court of the United States in South Dakota v. Wayfair, which requires companies meeting certain specifications, but with no physical location in a state to have to pay sales tax. The case, targeted at large companies who primarily do business over the internet, was seen as leveling the playing field for Main Street businesses who are required to pay the tax.
Marty received the South Dakota State’s Attorneys Association Distinguished Service Award in 2019. In January 2019, after serving as Attorney General and US Attorney, Marty returned to the Gunderson Palmer law firm as a partner opening up the Pierre branch office.
