GREENWOOD, IN – Former South Dakota State placekicker Adam Vinatieri has been named to the Academic All-America Hall of Fame, as selected by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Vinatieri, the first former Jackrabbit to be given this honor, was an Academic All-America selection in 1994, his senior year with SDSU. He set school records for career field goals, extra points, points by a kicker and the longest field goal, 51 yards. In 1994, he set the Jackrabbit single-season punting record with an average of 43.5 yards per kick.
Vinatieri is a four-time Super Bowl winner and the NFL’s all-time leading scorer with 2,673 points. His 599 field goals are the most in league history. He kicked last-second field goals for the Patriots in Super Bowl XXVI against the Rams and Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Panthers.
