VERMILLION – The 2021 spring season for University of South Dakota football is officially over.
USD Athletic Director David Herbster announced Tuesday that the Coyotes no longer are seeking a replacement game for April 17. This was necessary because Western Illinois, whom USD was to have played on that day, decided earlier this week to opt out of the rest of the season.
The Coyotes last played on March 20. Since then, their game with North Dakota State was cancelled due to COVID-19 cases within the Bison program, and games with Northern Iowa and South Dakota State were cancelled because of COVID-19 within the USD program.
South Dakota is set to open a full 2021 fall schedule September 4 at Kansas, then host Northern Arizona September 11.
