SIOUX FALLS – Several Central South Dakota boys players were given All-State honors by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Winner Warriors senior guard Brady Fritz was named first-team all-state in Class A. Fritz averaged 26.4 points, five rebounds and two and a half assists per game, leading Winner to its first state tournament appearance in five years. Fritz also made 83 three-pointers. His point average was third among all boys players in South Dakota.
Chamberlain Cubs senior guard Drayton Priebe was named to the Class A all-state second team. Priebe averaged 18.1 points a game as the Cubs made state for the first time in four years.
South Dakota’s leading scorer, Joe Sayler of White River, made first-team all-state in Class B. Sayler, a sophomore, averaged 29.3 points a game, 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He made just over 50 percent of his field goals, made 72 three-pointers and shot nearly 80 percent on free throws.
Platte-Geddes senior Kelby VanDerWerff made the second team, while his teammate, junior Caden Foxley, earned a spot on the third team. VanDerWerff averaged 16 points and nine rebounds a game. Foxley averaged a double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds per contest.
Potter County junior Grant Luikens also made the third team. Luikens averaged 20 points a game and made 52 percent of his field goals.
Also on the third team is freshman Daniel Mitchell of Gregory, who hit 26.4 points and 11 rebounds per game.
