Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre will hold a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic today (Friday, April 9) from 9am-1pm in the hospital’s south commons area.
People who have scheduled appointments as well as people without appointments are encouraged to attend. Vaccinations are given at no cost, but people coming to get vaccinated are required to wear a mask.
Karen Gallagher, Avera St. Mary’s Vice President of Mission, says the event will take place in the ground level of the “old” hospital building on Dakota Avenue in the former cafeteria. Clinic participants should use Parking Lot F and enter through Door 8. An entrance for wheelchairs is located just off Washington Avenue near the site.
Gallagher says when you arrive, screening staff will measure your temperature and guide you through the process. You’ll complete a form, receive the vaccine and then be scheduled for your second shot. Everyone getting vaccinated takes part in a 15-minute observation period.
People who get vaccinated today must be available to receive the second shot April 28. Before you leave the vaccination clinic, schedulers tell you what time you will get the second vaccination.
