SIOUX FALLS – Coaches from Chamberlain, Mobridge-Pollock, Potter County, Faulkton Area and Sully Buttes have been recognized as Coaches of the Year by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
Chamberlain’s Steve Schoenhard has been named as the Region 7 Assistant Boys Coach of the Year. Schoenhard is an assistant to Head Coach Andy Nelson. The Cubs were 18-6 and made the Class A state tournament for the first time in four years.
Trey Frederick of Mobridge-Pollock is the Region 4 Assistant Boys Coach of the Year. Frederick assists Head Coach TJ Knudson. The Tigers were 15-6 and made the SoDak 16.
Bryce Hall of Potter County was named as the Region 3 Boys Head Coach of the Year. Under Hall, the Battlers were 19-4 and qualified for the SoDak 16.
Chase Casper of Faulkton Area and Mark Senftner of Sully Buttes share the honor of Region 3 Girls Head Coaches of the Year. Casper led Faulkton to a 15-8 record and a SoDak 16 appearance. Senftner left the Chargers in December to begin treatment for a brain tumor.
Faulkton assistants swept the Region 3 Assistant Coach of the Year awards. Honored were Trojans’ girls assistant Ryan Melius and boys assistant Brice Cunningham.
Additionally, Wendy Rausch of Potter County was named as the lower level Girls Coach of the Year for regions 1 through 4. Jesse Wittler of Sully Buttes received the same honor for the boys.
