ST. LOUIS – South Dakota State freshman quarterback Mark Gronowski was named Missouri Valley Football Conference offensive player of the year, freshman of the year and newcomer of the year.
Gronowski, who beat out two experienced quarterbacks in the spring to earn the starting job, has thrown for 1,051 yards and eight touchdown passes. He has also rushed for 383 yards and six touchdowns while compiling three 100-yard rushing games.
Gronowski is the second Jackrabbit to win the conference’s offensive player of the year award, the other being Taryn Christion in 2016. He is the fifth SDSU player to earn the MVFC freshman of the year honor and the first to be named newcomer of the year.
Gronowski joins six Jackrabbit teammates as members of the all-conference first team, including running back Pierre Strong, tight end Zach Heins, offensive tackle Garret Greenfield, defensive tackle Caleb Sanders, linebacker Logan Backhaus and cornerback Don Gardner.
Guard Mason McCormick and wide receiver Jaxon Janke made the second team. Running back Isaiah Davis, center Wes Genant and kicker Cole Frahm earned honorable mention.
