PIERRE – With two wins in their last at-bats, Pierre Governor Baseball swept a doubleheader Friday from the Brookings Bobcats 2-1 and 1-0 in 8 innings at Hyde Stadium in the Governors’ first home games of the season.
Brookings scored their run in the top of the sixth of the first game against the Governors’ Lincoln Kienholz on an RBI single by Cole Mablum. In the bottom of the sixth, Maguire Raske walked, Andy Gordon singled and Jayden Wiebe drove them both in with a double.
Kienholz earned the win by allowing just four hits and striking out 10 in six innings. Isaac Polak pitched the seventh inning for the save.
Game two went into extra innings scoreless. Brookings had runners on first and third but did not score. The Governors’ Jacob Mayer hit a leadoff single in the home eighth. Raske reached on an error. After a balk and an intentional walk, the bases were loaded. Bennett Dean then beat out an infield hit to score Mayer and give the Governors the sweep.
Aaron Booth and Dean combined on a two-hit shutout, with Dean earning the win by pitching four and two-thirds innings.
Pierre is now 10-2. The Governors will meet Roosevelt in a doubleheader on Friday, April 30 at Harmondon Park in Sioux Falls.
