This week (June 15), the Pierre City Commission awarded a $79,349 contract to R&W Construction for the concrete work at the city’s new skate park.
Four contractors submitted proposals to complete the work; R&W provided the lowest bid.
The 5,000 sq. ft. concrete pad is expected to be complete by the end of July. Shortly after that, the new equipment is expected to be placed. If all goes according to the project schedule, the new skate park will be open and available to the public this fall.
“American Ramp, our equipment vendor, is planning to deliver the pieces in September and then place the equipment at that time as well,” said Tom Farnsworth, Parks and Recreation Director. “American Ramp is coordinating with their production team to make that timeline work.”
The new skate park will be located in Griffin Park, just east of the current skate park site. It will include half pipes, quarter pipes, bank ramps, a grind ledge, jump boxes and more.
The existing skate park will be removed to make way for the city’s new outdoor swimming pool.
“The old equipment will be sold and the concrete will be pulled out when we begin dirt work at the site of the new pool,” said Farnsworth. “If you’re interested in a piece of the existing equipment, contact the City Finance Office.”
Late last month, the commission approved the purchase of new skate park equipment for $101,000.
