SIOUX FALLS – One of South Dakota’s premier sporting events is staying put.
On Wednesday, PGA Tour Champions and Minnehaha Country Club announced a two-year extension for the club to continue hosting the Sanford International through 2024.
Last November, the country club rejected a proposal to extend the original five-year agreement beyond 2022. Officials at Sanford soon announced that the tournament would not end, but that other venues would be considered, including possibly Fargo, North Dakota.
About half of Minnehaha’s membership was against keeping the tournament there because its presence extends over two months.
This year’s Sanford International is scheduled for September 13 through 19.
