At Tuesday’s (August 10th) meeting of the Mobridge City Council, the council approved the first reading of Ordinance #997, updating zoning ordinance 19.03 to correct wording that clarifies the zoning officer’s ability to issue building permits to residents with a nuisance violation if the building permit is correcting the nuisance.
For the Mobridge Police Department the council approved the hiring of part time fill-in officers Donald Knecht and Justin Jungwirth.
Water and Sewer Superintendent Kurt Schmaltz gave the council an update on the waste water screw pump project.
Public hearings were held and approval given for several brown bag permits – for the Pink Ladies on September 18th, the Mobridge Chamber for Beef & Fun Day on September 11th, and for the City and Aquatic Center on August 14th for a fundraiser for a permanent shade structure at the pool. Council also approved a special events liquor license for Dominick of The Current to tend bar at Scherr-Howe for a wedding on October 9th. The wage study was approved.
A special meeting will be held on August 24th, combining the city council and the zoning board to discuss moving forward with the medical marijuana dispensaries. Beck explained the procedure.
Beck said the first reading of that ordinance will be on August 24th, with the second reading scheduled for August 31st. It will then be published in the September 8th newspaper, and effective prior to the October 4th deadline.
