Three people are in custody following a brief standoff at an apartment complex Friday afternoon (Aug. 20, 2021) in Pierre.
The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office reports shortly before 3pm CDT Friday, authorities were notified that 33 year old Wesley Boni was in violation of a court ordered furlough release. He was captured and returned to custody less than three hours later following an extensive city, county, state, and federal effort.
A combined task force was established which quickly developed leads indicating Boni was at an apartment complex on Wells Avenue in Pierre. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant and the area around the complex surrounded.
A fugitive apprehension team was deployed and made contact with a person who confirmed Boni was inside.
Following a brief standoff Boni was taken into custody without further incident. He is being held on the arrest warrant and was additionally charged with Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer and 2nd Degree Escape.
36-year-old Robin Rockwood was also taken into custody and is charged with Obstructing A Law Enforcement Officer.
27-year-old Brandon Dubois jumped from a second story window at the apartment as officers made entry. He is being held on unrelated outstanding warrants.
Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan credits the quick capture to the coordinated efforts of the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, Pierre Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the United States Marshals Service.
