FORT PIERRE – In need of a win, Stanley County needed big offense and received it Friday.
Lathan Prince passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, Andruw Fredericksen had rushing and kickoff return touchdowns and Levi Stover had a big night rushing as Stanley County held off White River 50-36 in SC’s Homecoming game at Ole Williamson Field and denied a remarkable effort by White River’s Dylan Marshall.
Stover, who rushed for 143 yards on just six carries, gave Stanley County (2-4) the lead for good with a 67-yard touchdown run with just over five minutes left in the first half at 12-6. This was after Marshall had thrown a touchdown pass to Ryatt Wooden Knife for White River (0-5). Prince hit Daysen Titze with an 81-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to make the Buffalo lead 20-6.
After a Gavin Folkers touchdown pass to TJ Beardt for White River, Fredericksen scored from three yards with 5:26 left in the first half and SC led 28-14. Prince touchdown passes in the third quarter to Gavin Irving and Barrett Schweitzer extended the home team’s lead to 43-14. Marshall scored from a yard out for White River, followed by Fredericksen’s 51-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff.
Folkers ran for a touchdown for the Tigers in the fourth quarter and passed to Kendrell Cuevas for another.
Marshall rushed for 255 yards on 29 carries, passed for 59 yards and had a 70-yard kickoff return.
The 50 points scored by Stanley County were the most by a Buffalo team since a 59-0 win at St. Francis Indian on September 21, 2018.
