The Joint South Dakota Senate and House Legislative Redistricting Committee meets today (Sept. 30, 2021) at 10am CT via electronic conference and in Room 414 of the State Capitol in Pierre.
Senator Mary Duvall of Pierre, who co-chairs the committee, says there are a lot of requirements to follow when creating legislative districts.
When you move the boundaries of one district so it includes the correct amount of people, Duvall says you end up needing to adjust the districts around it.
She says the Redistricting Committee has come up with preliminary boundaries for some of the districts.
District 24 is currently made up of Stanley, Hughes, Sully and Hyde counties, but Duvall says that’s going to have to change.
The Joint South Dakota Senate and House Legislative Redistricting Committee plans to hold public meetings around the state next month. According to the Legislative Research Council’s website, those meetings are current set for:

The Senate Legislative Redistricting Committee is chaired by Senator Mary Duvall (R-Pierre) with vice chair Jim Bolin (R-Canton). Members include Senators Casey Crabtree (R-Madison), Michael Diedrich (R-Rapid City), Helene Duhamel (R-Rapid City), Troy Heinert (D-Mission), and Kyle Schoenfish (R-Scotland).
The House Legislative Redistricting Committee is chaired by Representative Spencer Gosch (R-Glenham) with vice chair Kent Peterson (R-Salem). Members include Ryan Cwach (D-Yankton), Drew Dennert (R-Aberdeen), Mike Derby (R-Rapid City), Jon Hansen (R-Dell Rapids), Liz May (R-Kyle), and Bethany Soye (R-Sioux Falls).
